(23 Jun 2018) A huge meat pie measuring 118 centimetres (46 inches) wide and weighing 26 kilograms (57 pounds) was cooked on Saturday in Kazan during celebrations of the Sabantuy summer holiday.
It was the first time the Tatar traditional meat pie known as "peremyach" was made so large.
The restaurant where the cooking took place prepared for three weeks to make the pie.
It used 10 kilograms (22 pounds) of halal beef, 16 kilograms (35 pounds) of pastry dough, and 250 litres (66 gallons) of oil for cooking.
Local authorities checked the size and weight of the pie and later distributed it to guests for free.
The traditional Sabantuy festival, celebrated in many villages and towns across Russia is an ancient festival marking the end of spring crop planting.
