Protests demanding statehood and the Sixth Schedule for Ladakh turned violent, leaving at least four dead and over 70 injured, according to PTI. The unrest erupted after a shutdown was called by student and youth organizations, with protesters setting fire to a BJP office and police firing teargas to disperse crowds. The protests were triggered by two elderly hunger strikers fainting and being hospitalized. Sonam Wangchuk, addressing the situation, confirmed that "three to five young people have been killed due to police firing" and urged for calm, stating that the violence was not the right approach.
