Somewhat by accident, I finished this one off on this occasion. This starts quite badly with having no idea, and then finding the way with trying-everything-on-everything eventually getting me the key from LeChuck's cabin. I was a bit miffed with this because it seems in the short-term like you end up in a dead end after using the key to open the hatch, but I managed to get the grog form the sleeping crew member not long thereafter, which unlocked pretty much everything else.

One observation is I feel as though the game changes the rules slightly at this point - ANY point other than this if you use the compass, it stops you by saying "it's pointing towards Melee Island" and stopping you doing anything - but then in LeChuck's Cabin on this one occasion, it allows you to use it. Also with the sleeping crew member, using the feather produces the statement "I can't find a ticklish spot on his body." Well, his body includes his feet! But you can get an idea of what you're supposed to do by seeing that he stretches his arms out if you stand by his feet. It's the only thing I can think of in the game where the outcome depends on you standing in the correct place, quite specifically.

There is a joke in finding out that the ancient root just produces root beer and also it should be noted that the meeting minutes, staple remover and a couple of sailing manuals are completely useless throughout the game. We do also find a use for the church, which had served no purpose up to this point, and it took me a while to realise at the end that the root beer alone is enough to kill of LeChuck and finish this game.

We also get one of the recurring themes of the series here, which is that Elaine is portrayed as the damsel-in-distress but is actually the smarter, braver and more capable one and further on, it's her that ends up rescuing Guybrush a lot.

It's a great game and I love it. Part of a great, great series.
