Ford KUGA 2023 an automated parking maneuver from outside the vehicle without risk of damage

Hey Guys, The Ford Europa group are teaming up with infrastructure providers and tech companies to develop an automated valet parking service that allows drivers to use an app to send the vehicle into an automated parking maneuver, all from outside the vehicle.

Automated valet parking takes the search for space to the next level
Finding a parking space can be difficult - and once you find one, it can be a tight strain. Many parking lots are the same size as they were years ago, while the vehicles themselves have grown bigger.

Automated Valet Parking allows drivers to use an app to send the vehicle into an automated parking maneuver from outside the vehicle without the risk of damaging - and from - other vehicles parked nearby.

The technology, currently in the research and demonstration phase, could also be extended to allow drivers to send the vehicle to a car wash or a charging station, or even to have packages delivered to the trunk of the parking lot.

Automated valet parking allows drivers to leave the vehicle in a designated area and use the FordPass app to start looking for a free parking space. * Sensor technology in the parking lot takes control of the vehicle and manages all traffic inside the parking lot.
Drivers simply use the FordPass app to request the return of the vehicle to the designated area, which speeds up the pick-up experience and allows occupants to enter the vehicle comfortably. This avoids long walks in large parking lots or the potential problem of trying to find the vehicle.

In partnership with infrastructure providers and technology companies, including Bosch, the Automated Valet Parking solution can be deployed by installing sensors in existing car parks or planned in the construction of new facilities.

This technology would require vehicles already in circulation that benefit from an automatic transmission, electronic stability control, an electric parking brake and power steering. All the vehicle needs is an intelligent communication unit.

“The demonstration shows that driverless parking is a reality and that the broader benefits go beyond comfort, convenience and time savings. Whether it's an airport, city center or sports complex, parking could soon become much more efficient, with contactless entry, payment and exit. Having vehicles circling around the parking lot in search of a suitable space will soon become a thing of the past.
