When the New York Stock Exchange reopened on September 17, 2001 following the historic four-day closure in the aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, a group of leaders and first responders from the FDNY, NYPD and Port Authority Police and other officials and agencies gathered to ring The Opening Bell®. To honor those original first responders, and everyone who was affected by the 9/11 attacks, the NYSE welcomes today’s leaders of those organizations to commemorate the 20th Anniversary of that day.

To honor the occasion, Laura Kavanagh, FDNY First Deputy Commissioner, Michael Ajello, FDNY Deputy Assistant Chief and Manhattan Borough Commander, Marie Villani, EMS Division Chief and EMS Division 2 Commander, Dermot Shea, NYPD Commissioner, Stephen Hughes, NYPD Assistant Chief and Commanding Officer of Manhattan South and Edward T. Cetnar, NY/NJ Port Authority Superintendent of Police, will ring The Closing Bell®.
