The Safety Net recipes are a compromise between a host of different factors and quality. At the end of the day if you want a really good whiskey you make it with grain, not white/table sugar. But there are a bunch of other reasons that using sugar makes sense.

So in this video, I take a look at a question that comes up a lot. Should/can you use more grain instead of sugar in a Safety Net recipe?

Standard Safety Net Recipe
(1/3 Grain - 2/3 sugar)
8.5kg (18.7lb) grain
6kg (13.2lb) Sugar

2/3 Grain Level Up
17kg (37.5lb) Grain
3kg (6.6lb) sugar

All-Grain Version
25.5kg (56.2lb) Grain
NO sugar
