Under a narrow strip of sky, host John Viehman explores one of the desert's hidden deep and narrow folds--a slot canyon that's deeper than it is wide. We'll drop into one of the Colorado Plateau's sinuous slots for a taste of "canyoneering," an amphibious sport that combines backpacking, technical climbing and a willingness to get soaking wet. We'll wear wetsuits to ward off the chill of wading through frigid water, carry ropes to rappel past the steep dropoffs, and scramble through stacks of bus-size boulders. Constant dead-ends and backtracking are to be expected, but it's all enjoyable in an oddball sort of way.
