Lets practice writing equations of parallel lines! In this video, we go through one example where we are asked to write the equation of a line that passes through a given point and is parallel to a given line. When writing the equation of a line, we need two things. First, we need a point. Second, we need to know the slope of the line. Since, in our example, we are not given the slope, we use the information given about the second line to extrapolate the slope of our line. Because parallel lines have the same slope, we know that the slope of our line is the same as the slope of the given line. Once we have the slope, we put this together with the given point to create the equation of the line described. And that's it!
