The things we wildlife photographers will endure to get the shot... Sheesh! No matter what bait I tried, the only thing that worked was, well, you guessed it... And 'ol Rover was more than happy to supply the bait! So, I held my nose and went in close for the shot: 2-4 inches away and a macro setting with the Casio Ex-F1 captured some great fly-bys and unexpected sights.

Blowflies have some very interesting flight maneuvers, which can only been seen with high-speed, slow motion photography. They appear to swing the weight of their abdomens around 90 to 180 degrees to aim their bodies in a sort of thrust-vectoring motion, which allows them to accelerate, decelerate and change direction. In such a crowded environment, there are also plenty of mid-air collisions, but it doesn't seem to bother such low-mass creatures.

Fortunately, you won't have to hold your nose to watch this show! XD
