Cycling End to End on the Erie Canal

The Erie Canal Trail stretches 400 miles from Buffalo to Albany, NY and I rode the entire route. Over eight days I recorded the scenery, the setbacks, and my thoughts as we learned how the Erie Canal was built and how it changed the then fledgling United States. We biked along with about 600 other people as part of the annual ride sponsored by Parks & Trails New York.
Every morning we set out to bicycle between 27 and 70 miles, stopping at canal towns along the way. During the trip we faced a tornado warning, a water main break, cramping, and well, saddle sores.
We camped in tents at night, and rode to our heart's content during the day. There were huge waterfalls and a trip through the famous lift locks at Lockport, NY.
