The Low Income Household Water Assistance Program (LIHWAP) is the first-ever federal water assistance program that helps individuals with low incomes pay their water and wastewater bills.

LIHWAP funding can be used pay the full amount of past due water and wastewater bills to ensure that households whose services have been disconnected or are pending disconnection are able to have their services restored or maintained, as quickly as possible. Benefits are also available, in some areas, for households that are current on their water bill but need assistance ensuring their water bill is/remains affordable.

This video provides information for water service providers about the Low Income Household Water Assistance Program (LIHWAP) to build awareness and encourage participation. Participation from local water service companies is critical to the successful implementation of LIHWAP.

LIHWAP grants are available to States, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, U.S. Territories, and Federally and state-recognized Indian Tribes and tribal organization.
