Music: BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, Sachio Fujioka: Threnody to Toki Op. 12

Threnody to Toki, for string orchestra and piano was composed between 1970-81 and was
premiered on the 19th of February 1981 at the Shinjuku Cultural Center at the "Contemporary Music festival '81" and was conducted by Kazuo Tamada with the Nihon Philharmonic Orchestra.

This Piece was composed in remembrance of the last Toki Bird (Nipponia Nippon) of Japan which died in 1971. The first manuscript was completed in November 17th 1979, written for 11 Strings and Piano, but in order to be presented in the "Exhibition of Contemporary Music '81" it was re-written for a string orchestra, and completed on Nov 24th.
