How do we install shaders without Optifine 1.20.4? Well, we use the Iris Shaders mod. This is a Minecraft 1.20.4 shaders mod that will allow you to get shaders even if Optifine hasn’t updated yet. So, without anymore delay, here is how to download and install shaders for Minecraft 1.20.4!

First things first, we need to download Iris Shaders. You can find a link in the description to download Iris. That will take you to our text guide on how to get shaders with Iris in 1.20.4. On that page, click the “Download Iris Shaders” button to go to the official Iris Shaders download page.

On the Iris download page, click on the “Download Installer” button, and it will start downloading.

There is one more thing we need to download though, and that is a shader pack. Shader packs are how you can get different shader styles in Minecraft 1.20.4. In the description above, there is a link to some of the best shader packs that are out there. No matter what shader pack you decide to download, it is installed the exact same way.

With Iris Shaders and a shader pack downloaded, we can move on to how to install shaders on Minecraft PC 1.20.4. First, find the Iris Shaders installer file you downloaded. Open it with Java by double-clicking on it, and then, select the 1.20.4 Minecraft version. Finally, click the “Install” button and shaders will install in Minecraft 1.20.4 without Optifine.

Now open the Minecraft Launcher and play Minecraft using the Iris & Sodium for 1.20.4 installation.

Once Minecraft is open, click on “Options”, “Video Settings”, and “Shader Packs” at the top of the Video Settings tab. Here, you will see an “Open Shader Pack Folder” button in the bottom left. Click on that, and the shaderpacks folder will open.

Drag-and-drop and Minecraft 1.20.4 shaders packs you want to install into this folder. You can install multiple shader packs and easily switch between them!

With your shader packs installed, go back into Minecraft, and you will see them in the “Shader Packs” tab. Click on the shader pack you want to use and click “Apply”. You now have Minecraft shaders installed and working in 1.20.4!

You can change your shader options with the “Shader Pack Settings” button in the bottom left of the Shader Packs menu. This will let you change various options about the shader pack you have installed. It is worth nothing that ever shader pack has different settings though.
