Описание к видео Rewriting A Family History: The De Sola Family

The De Sola are one of the earliest Sephardic families to be researched. The family arrived in Amsterdam from Portugal in 1700. From modest beginnings as shochets (ritual slaughterers) the De Sola grew into one of the community’s leading family, producing rabbis, hazans, and teachers. With their rise in social standing, so the family’s humble past was embellished.

Ton Tielen’s research includes a critical review of documents from the Julian Kemper Archive of the De Sola Family that was recently passed by the Jewish Genealogical Society of Great Britain to the Sephardic Genealogical Society.

Ton Tielen is co-founder of the Sephardic Genealogical Society, of The Sephardic Diaspora group on Facebook, and A Nação Hebraica. He previously served as Archivist of The Netherlands Red Cross.
