Dsquared is denim. I’ve been trying to come up with a way to start this review and I just can’t. Like the Saint Laurent leather jacket or the Balmain biker jeans from the last 2 reviews, Dsquared denim needs no introduction. Its famous. Jacket, jeans, doesn’t matter; this is what they do. Is the cut and wash as clean as Saint Laurent? Nope, not by a long shot. Dsquared is messy, ripped, and above all cool.

When you see models in between runway shows during Milan and Paris fashion weeks the denim jacket stands out as the most worn piece. It’s just easy to wear. When I wear this jacket I just don’t have to worry about it. I can scratch it up, wear it in the rain, and lean on whatever I want knowing it will be fine. You just can’t do that with a leather jacket. As much as I love my Saint Laurent I have to treat it like a newborn child. It’s just easier to throw this on and walk out the house. It’s easily my most worn jacket.

The first thing you notice when you put this jacket on is the structure of the shoulders. The inside of the shoulder seam has been reinforced allowing the shoulders to keep their shape and provide a lot of support to help keep the rigid silhouette. The jacket off the rack I personally found to need some tailoring through the body. If you wear your jacket closed the body would have been fine, but I very rarely do so I had the sides taken in to make a more tapered look. The back of the jacket has a tab you can adjust to make the body more fitted but I’ve never used it because of the tailoring.

Like all Dsquared denim the distressing and detail is what makes the piece Dsquared. Paint and distressing can be found all over the jacket. Although it may seem random, all jackets have the same marks in the same spots. The zippers and buttons are all embossed with Dsquared which leads me to my favourite part: the zippers at the cuffs. I love the red tape on the zippers. It just really pops and adds a very cool biker element to an otherwise “normal” denim jacket. The zippers are the reason I talked myself into getting this jacket. I almost didn’t because of the rips on the sleeves at the back of the elbows.

I was very concerned the rips would get destroyed the first time I wore this jacket. I had visions of me reaching for something on a high shelf and splitting my sleeve in half. I’ve had this jacket for a year now, easily my most worn piece, and I don’t think I’ve even lost a single thread. You just gotta trust Dsquared thought about the placement of the rips and tested it.

I think everyone should have a denim jacket. They are just easy to wear in every casual setting. I’ll wear this jacket during the day walking around the park, then to dinner and a bar or club after. I don’t have to go home and change and that just makes it convenient. If you want a cool, ripped up, and destroyed jacket, get the Dsquared. If you want something clean go check out Saint Laurent.
