The Last Day Of The Volcano & Volcanologist Predicts The Future of Reykjanes — Part I

Описание к видео The Last Day Of The Volcano & Volcanologist Predicts The Future of Reykjanes — Part I

In the latest update report on the recent volcanic eruption, reporters Alina Maurer and Art Bicnick make their way to the newest place of danger from the volcano. This week, a berm just one kilometre away from the Svartsengi Power Plant and the Blue Lagoon overflowed with lava, which slowly made its way closer to crucial infrastructure. Fire departments from all over the country were on-site fighting the lava streams with cold water to lower the flow speed. This was the first time water was used to control lava flow since the 1973 Heimaey eruption in the Westman Islands!

They also talk to our special guest – one of Iceland's leading volcanologists and petrologists, professor Þorvaldur Þórðarson from the Faculty of Earth Sciences at the University of Iceland. He has studied Icelandic volcanoes for nearly 40 years. Þorvaldur has been one of the most prominent voices in Icelandic media since the volcanic activity on the Reykjanes peninsula picked up in 2021.

You can watch Part 2 of our interview with Þorvaldur in next week's episode on Saturday! 🌋
