The Kayak Bass Fishing (KBF) organization hosts monthly tournaments for each state where you get to fish any public water in that state for the month and the top 10% of the field qualifies for the KBF Challenge Championships help concurrently with the KNF National Championships each year. But in May they run "Mayhem" where they double the number of qualifiers, so I decided to throw my hat in the ring and see if I could get my qualification done just by fishing the 2 tournaments in Ohio I had in May (with no free days to fish otherwise). Well, May 30th came and I was in 8th place with the top 10 qualifying and another day for people to fish, so I decided to skip sleeping and go try to upgrade in between my 11-hour work days. Luckily I got an 18" bass which was a 3" upgrade and moved me up to 5th still with the whole day for people to fish, but I am pretty sure that will keep me in the top 10. I wish I had the time to fish for first place, but I am thrilled that I actually managed to get that qualification just fishing two in-person tournaments and this little 3-hour trip to the lake!
