A fourth ship lingers in the distance, forever approaching… a symbol of a past that still calls to us.

Located at Plaza De Luna (900 S Palafox St, Pensacola, FL 32502), this statue honors Don Tristan de Luna y Arellano, the Spanish conquistador who led the first European settlement in the continental United States in 1559. Though that settlement would fade with time, its legacy remains etched into the soul of the 850.

The statue, sculpted by Jose P. Garza, was commissioned as part of a historic beautification effort by the City of Pensacola to celebrate its rich Spanish heritage, maritime history, and resilient spirit. Today, the monument stands as both a landmark and a spiritual anchor to a city whose past is as deep as its Gulf waters.
