It is believed that the manatee came to this Dade County canal a few days ago - to give birth to her calf in a peaceful fresh water environment .

In the meantime, the pair is getting a lot of attention from many curious onlookers.

This manatee mother is spending quality time with her calf.

Before giving birth, manatees will seek a safe and peaceful refuge in fresh water areas with plenty of vegetation.

The mother will typically remain in its chosen spot until it has had enough time to bond with her newborn calf.
