Описание к видео Train Cab Ride NL / Westbound Intercity / Deventer - Amersfoort - Amsterdam / ICM IC / June 2023

Hi everyone! It’s video Friday! Welcome on board a brand new ride. This time we take ride from Deventer to Amsterdam. On our way an ATB signal failure and a faulty overhead wire pass the review. Also in the end of the video a small bonus. We’ll be connecting our ICM with another one to be prepared for rush hour. Enjoy!

0:00 Deventer
Before we start: this video was recorded on the 27th of June. Not the 23rd. Lost count of days. Haha. Now let’s board the train. Welcome on board the ICM cabin. Looks like a spacious room. But to be honest it’s not. It’s perfect for a small driver like me. But drivers who are a bit bigger don’t have a lot of leg space. And let’s not even start about space to stand up. ;)

After departure we head west toward our first stop Apeldoorn. Right after Deventer we pass the IJsselspoorbrug.

5:15 Twello

5:38 Temporary Speed Limit
Temporary speed limit is still in place here for the farmers level crossing without warning lights. Those crossing will all be gone in het future. Until another way of getting to their land has been created there will a speed limit in place to ensure safety for everyone on the train and the farmers crossing the tracks.

9:05 Apeldoorn Osseveld

9:28 Apeldoorn
Just before Apeldoorn the line from Zutphen in joining in on the left side. Not mentioned in the video. So here it is. We arrive perfectly on time in Apeldoorn.

15:50 Faulty ATB Signal
Just after departure from Apeldoorn we encounter a faulty ATB signal for a few seconds. From this point on we must drive on sight and lower our speed to 40km/h until the next main signal that allows a higher speed. Because the distance to that signal is not much we don’t even reach the lower speed. The main signal constantly showed a green light telling us there’s nothing going on in the next section. After making I noted the location mark we continue on full speed.

24:14 Stroe
Here freight trains can be set aside to let Intercity’s pass by.

27:39 Barneveld Aansluiting

32:08 Hoevelaken
This station is not serviced by the Dutch Railways but by Connexxion. They run trains between Amersfoort and Ede-Wageningen. In the near future another company will take over from them.

34:37 Amersfoort Centraal
Arriving on Amersfoort. Passengers from the Zwolle direction are arriving on the other side of the platform. With a connecting train to Amsterdam (ours). And of course the other way around toward Utrecht and further.

43:48 Train Dispatcher Contact
The train dispatcher from Apeldoorn is calling me back to give feedback about the ATB signal failure. Other trains had no problem here. So it was just a short bug. While being on the line I spot a loose hanging wire in the overhead wires. Do you spot it as well?

45:06 Baarn
Maximum speed is 110km/h here because of the curved tracks. 110km/h cannot be shown on the ATB, so the system will just keep on telling us the maximum speed is 130km/h. ATB is only a help for the driver. Not leading. The driver must have full knowledge of the route.

48:23 Hilversum
On departure at Hilversum you can see the countdown underneath the platform roof. This starts counting down until the signal ahead stops showing a red light. While the countdown starts the train manager can already start closing the doors of the train. When the signal for departure turns on the last door may be closed. This saves about 15 seconds in the departure procedure. 15 seconds less waiting for road users near the level crossing.

54:52 Hilversum Mediapark
57:08 Bussum Zuid

57:54 Naarden-Bussum
Just after Naarden-Bussum we must slow down. The train ahead of us departed on time from Naarden-Bussum but got slightly delayed on its way to Weesp. If that wouldn’t have happened we would’ve be able to continue on full speed.

1:02:50 Weesp
Just a minute delay on our passage through Weesp. :)

1:04:04 Muiderspoorbrug
Testing the trains horns here! Fun for people on the boat!

1:05:29 Diemen
Diemen has changed a lot since the last video here. The level crossing has been replaced by a tunnel for other traffic. The station got a nice upgrade this way. Safer for everyone!

1:06:49 Amsterdam Science Park
1:07:50 Amsterdam Muiderpoort

1:09:29 Dijksgracht
At this location a dive-under will be created so trains can cross each other without blocking other trains paths.

1:11:16 Amsterdam Centraal
Arriving at our final stop. Because rush hour is coming up we connect our train with another ICM so passengers have more space. Two meters before the other train set we make a stop and then slowly approach to make the connection. All done! I hope you enjoyed the ride. Please let me know in the comments. Speak soon! Cheers!
