(19 Dec 2019) A Libyan military official has announced the Libyan National Army General Command is preparing a large military force to carry out a new mission.
Colonel Mohamed Blash, commander of Al-Nahr Battalion of the Libyan National Army (LNA) spoke on Wednesday in Brega, 241 kilometres (150 miles) west of Benghazi.
He said that the first combat force is fully prepared and equipped by the General Command of the Armed Forces and are already being dispatching to the assigned location.
Blash praised the fighters for their experience.
He also explained that the second combat force will be equipped in the next few days and will join the first force.
The LNA is seeking to open a new fighting front in the city of Sirte, in the middle of the Libyan coast, after spotting armed groups that came from Misrata near the city.
The LNA air force already bombed some targets near the city's power station two days ago.
These developments come at a time when the battles on the borders of the Libyan capital Tripoli enter their eighth month without resolution and with the intensification of the military operations which aim at ending the influence of armed militias and restoring state institutions.
The Libyan capital, Tripoli, has witnessing heavy clashes since April between the forces of the LNA led by Marshal Khalifa Hifter and forces loyal to the Government of National Accord (GNA).
