Effectively Pong on steroids, Windjammers 2 is already up there as one of the most addictive games I have played this year. As someone who dabbled with the original Neo Geo classic, this sequel/remake goes the distance to respect what the first represented, while updating the formula to work in the 4K era of gaming. It looks and plays like a dream, with relatively solid netcode and a simple and responsive interface to boot.

That said, Windjammers 2 can be absolutely brutal if you jump in at the deep end. The arcade mode packs a lot of challenge, even on the lower difficulties, as the AI is near faultless in rallies. Computer opponents will often go out of their way to punish if you ever slip up too. It sounds daft but losing just 2 points from missing a frisbee can make all the difference if your opposition plays you until the time limit expires and, believe me, it will happen alot.

On this playthrough, it must be acknowledged that H. Max is one of the most over-played characters in the online mode for Windjammers 2. His frisbee throws could break a brick wall, they're that fast, and his super shot can be disorientating to respond to. The Rooftop Stage on Round 3 was the only match that gave me any sort of trouble, given the computer tended to use and abuse super shot charge-up times for airborne frisbees. A combination of bounce pads and a lightweight challenger, like Mita, were always bound to create trouble because of this. Surprisingly, despite having Raposa on the Final Round, the only other bit of difficulty came from a disconnected DualSense controller which, amusingly, saw me forfeit the first set. I still won though, no continues needed.
