Joe Pesci, born *Joseph Frank Pesci* on February 9, 1943, in Newark, New Jersey, is a celebrated actor known for his versatility in dramatic and comedic roles.
Pesci was raised in an Italian-American household by his mother, Maria, a barber, and his father, Angelo, a forklift driver. His family traces its roots to Turin and Avellino in Italy.
Pesci's career began early as a child performer, appearing on television variety shows and commercials. He initially pursued music, forming a short-lived band in the 1960s and releasing an album under the name Joe Ritchie.
Pesci’s breakthrough came in 1980 when Martin Scorsese cast him in *Raging Bull* as Joey LaMotta, earning him a BAFTA for Most Promising Newcomer. This marked the beginning of his collaboration with Scorsese, which includes *Goodfellas* (1990), *Casino* (1995), and *The Irishman* (2019).
He is renowned for his intense, quick-tempered characters, particularly in **Goodfellas**, where his portrayal of Tommy DeVito won him an **Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor**.
Pesci also demonstrated his comedic talent in films like *My Cousin Vinny* (1992) and the *Home Alone* franchise. Despite his success, Pesci has often stepped away from the limelight, pursuing a quieter life.
