Just like “building a house,🏡” the nervous system works in stages… starting with the foundation right after birth. The most important being eating, sleeping and pooping with ease. This may sound simple, but here’s why they make all the difference:

EAT 🍴
Having head/neck control supports the “rooting reflex” and activates the muscles in the neck to allow the baby to be in a comfortable position to nurse or take a bottle. 🍼 The mouth, lips and tongue then work together to get their bellies full and bodies calm.

SLEEP 💤
A calm and relaxed tone supports a baby’s ability to easily calm down and sleep. If a newborn is stiff, arching, and feels tight, this can be a sign they are “skipping a foundational step” (most commonly due to a stressful delivery).

POOP 💩
Doing so with ease is a sign baby is relaxed and the autonomic nervous system is working together and on autopilot. Giving us confidence the body can adapt to MORE later on!

What do all these actions have in common?...

They are controlled by the nervous system which controls all development after this. If this foundation isn’t set then healing has to go back and master eating, sleeping and pooping no matter what the age!
