Paddling Across the Overland Trail; North Platte River

Float trip along the North Platte River through the windiest place in Wyoming.
Sanger to I-80: Day 2 of 2, from Saratoga to Interstate 80 in Wyoming. 28 miles at approximately 7000 CFS paddling a Packraft and Pakboat. (Day one link is below) This is a class 1, high desert float, some may say high plains country. It has a subtle beauty and intrinsic value as a ribbon of life through the arid high plains desert. The North Platte River is worth a look and worthy of keeping what is left freely flowing intact.
I’d say this is one of the windiest section of the North Platte River. A river float on this section is normally brutal, there were times I couldn’t make any progress. There is fishing access via roads as well but they are way out in BFE.
Kayak, Raft and Canoe camping along this section is possible but be prepared for lots of thick vegetation in places. High banks and private land in other places. The hazards are the wind, the bugs and wood. Rattlesnakes too as you will see. Along the way we visit some old mining ruins, a pioneer cemetery along the Overland Trail crossing, some “ancestral” graffiti and most of the public land sections along the way.
