Grand Falls, Arizona July 2018

Описание к видео Grand Falls, Arizona July 2018

Grand Falls (aka Chocolate Falls) lies out in the desert some 40 miles from Flagstaff, Arizona. For most of the year, the river is dry, and there is no waterfall.

however, in Spring after a deep snowpack in the mountains of New Mexico, or after a huge rain storm between Albuquerque and Flagstaff, there can be a strong flow of water over the falls. During those episodes, this falls is higher than Niagara Falls! It may be only a few brief times each year and take some planning to see, but is very worth witnessing.

The falls was created by a volcanic eruption sending a huge lava flow across the canyon of the Little Colorado. The river worked its way around the lava field, and pours over a cliff into its original canyon at these falls.

In this video we begin with a dry falls, react to an automated alert system from the United States Geological Survey on flows fifty miles upstream, and enjoy two days of flying over the impressive spectacle.
