What is respiratory hygiene/cough etiquette? These are infection prevention measures designed to limit the transmission of respiratory pathogens spread by droplet or airborne routes.

To help stop the spread of germs:

🤧 Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze.
🗑️ Put your used tissue in a waste basket.
👕 If you don’t have a tissue, cough or sneeze into your upper sleeve, not your hands.

Remember to wash your hands after coughing or sneezing:

The CDC recommends good hand hygiene as one of the top steps to prevent the spread of illness:

🧼✋ Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds especially after you have been in a public place, or after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.

🧴 If soap and water are not readily available, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol. Cover all surfaces of your hands and rub them together until they feel dry.

🚫 Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands

🚫 Put distance between yourself and other people if COVID-19 is spreading in your community.
