June 2018 - a 14 night combination of 7 nights All Inclusive in Hurghada but split midway by a 7 night Nile cruise. One of the many we have taken since the late 1990s.
On this trip, we hired a small motorboat and captain to take us for the short trip across the River Nile from the East Bank of Aswan (below KFC) across to the West Bank.
There, we hired 2 teenage boys and 2 camels to take us up the steep pathway and sand dunes to the ticket office at the monastery.
It's another steep climb up the steps to the top but definitely worth it. You can probably hear from the video, I was out of breath after the climb - not helped by having developed asthma in my early 20s.
This was our "must do" part of our trip - each time we visit Egypt we set out a plan to do something different.
Other than the ticket seller and his friend, we were the only 2 people inside the terracotta monastery.
The boat waited for us to return from our explorations and we made further arrangements for him to take us and 2 other couples we'd met during the road transfer between Hurghada and Luxor, up river towards the original British built dam in Aswan.
