The structural elements of playing contracts in top level football and rugby are pre-agreed (between the league and the players union) and are unalterable, including the all important termination clauses, threshold, remedial window and dispute arbitration process to give the player and club adequate protection.

However, be alert to the possibility that ancillary contracts such as the Image Rights agreement, which aren't restricted by to these regulations, can be linked to the Playing Contract, and a cunning way to attempt to circumvent the threshold for termination.
