Afghanistan's long-standing Sikh and Hindu community is nearing extinction as its last remnants have tried to flee the Taliban takeover and persecution after August 2021.

Barely a handful Sikhs and Hindus are thought to remain in the country now.

The exodus appears close to ending a rich history of Afghan Sikhs and Hindus stretching back to the 15th Century. As recently as the 1980s there were some 300,000 residents who played key roles in the country’s commerce and financial trade.

In this episode of Tomorrow’s Hope show, presented by Sear Sadat, we look at Afghanistan’s dwindling Sikh and Hindu community as they have collectively left their homeland.

You will hear the sad story of an Afghan Sikh, who migrated to the UK in the 1980s due to the civil war in Afghanistan. We have also spoken to 3 representatives from the Sikh, Hindu and Muslim communities to discuss the challenges and the way forward. You will also hear the biography of Rawail Singh, a patriot Sikh, who was killed in a suicide attack in Nangarhar in 2018.

At the end, we have the pleasure of having an exclusive message from Afghanistan’s noted and popular music artist, Farhad Darya, concluding with his “Attan” song.
