It was somewhat paradoxical to the staff at Mohawk Mountain that a snowstorm prevented them from welcoming skiers and snowboarders. That’s what happened on Tuesday when a powerful nor’easter whipped through much of the state leaving towns in the higher elevations without power. Mohawk lost power early on during the storm and shut down for the day.

"It was definitely a different world up here, we had wind – little snow tornadoes out here on the hill," said Steve Hedden, the operations manager at Mohawk.

Eversource crews worked through the night and power came back on Wednesday morning at Mohawk, the lifts opened for skiers by noon.
