Here’s the story of how and why I started http://nichesiteproject.com - check it out!

At the very beginning, I knew nothing about niche websites, and I’d never even heard of Wordpress! I initially stumbled across niche sites when I was bored of listening to my usual homebrewing podcasts.

While browsing the podcast store I came across Smart Passive Income - Site Duel 2.0 by well-known internet marketer Pat Flynn.

I started listening to the and then came across Niche Site Project 1:0 by Spencer Haws at Niche Pursuits. (The project had already begun, but I was able to catch up fast).

These two people provided some great resources for me to learn from.

I began my first site in July 2013, and by December the site had made $6000+. However, by January the earnings dropped right back down due to the gray hate strategies I was using.

But I learned a lot.

WHY start a blog?

I decided to start a blog for three main reasons, which were:

To share knowledge - There’s a deeper level of understanding that you can’t get to if you just practice the topic.
Accountability - Having a blog and writing about my own stuff forced me to stay accountable. I couldn’t just quit as I’d look like a fool.
The ultimate goal is to sell something - I wanted to be helpful, but the main purpose is to sell something at the end of it.

My Unique Selling Proposition? Project Management.

Internet marketing is a saturated field, so I wanted to come at it with a unique angle. That angle was project management, which I had lots of experience of from my life in the corporate world.

How Did I Get Traction? I Pitched To Spencer At Niche Pursuits
To get myself and my blog out there I pitched to Spencer Haws to do one of his success stories. I did this twice which helped to bring lots of traffic to my site and build out an email list for when I launched my eBook.

Networking and Connecting
After my success story, I decided to connect with the other people that had been featured as success’ on NichePursuits. I contacted around 10 people and asked if they’d like to guest post on MY site.

Most of them said no, but it was a good way to make contact with up and coming successful people in internet marketing

Launched the eBook “Niche Site Project Management.”
After I had an email list built up and was starting to get exposure, I launched my eBook. It has 3 releases which helped me improve it each time.

The eBook made around $10,000 in 2014.

Mistakes That I Made?
Not being consistent - if I'd been consistent for four years, I’d be a lot further ahead than I am now.
Expecting fast growth
Expecting everything to go as planned
Trying to do too much
Trying to write “smart.”

What Went Well?
Networking
Improving my writing, and content.
Content upgrades (have to opt-in via email to get the extra content) and this helps grow the email list
Webinars
Perseverance, persistence, and flexibility.

And Now?
Consistency. I’m trying to do something each week.
Weekly Webinars
YouTube videos
Improve the five figure niche site course
Write better than my peers
Say no to almost everything
