This DIY kit contains all the components you need to make a lanyard for your Gopro that is completely tailored to you. It includes a length of steel wire; small, compressible metal tubes; a length of heat shrink tubing; and an instruction card.

Step 1: Cut the heat shrink tubing: You will need to make sure that you cut the tubing so that it will cover the compressible metal tube. We recommend at least 1 centimetre in length.

Step 2: Thread the steel wire: Thread the steel wire through the cut piece of heat shrink tubing, then through the compressible metal tube.

Step 3: Create the loop: The loop at the end of your lanyard can be any size you want, but should ideally fit over the slim end of your GoPro thumbscrew - while still being small enough not to slip over the head of the screw. Bend the wire back on itself until you are happy with the size of the loop, then insert the end of the wire into the compressible metal tube.

Step 4: Fix the loop in place: Ensure the end of the steel wire is inside the metal tube, then take a hammer and strike the tube until it is compressed enough to hold the wire securely inside.

Step 5: Add the heat shrink tubing: Slide the heat shrink tubing over the metal tube. Heat it briefly with a small flame until it shrinks to fit tightly around the metal tube beneath.

When you have completed the first loop of your lanyard, repeat the process at the other end of the steel wire. You can trim the wire first if you’d like your completed lanyard to be shorter in length.
