Baptism: What Is The Right Way To Be Baptized?”
Matthew 28: 19; Acts 2: 38;

“Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:” Matthew 28:19 KJV

“Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.” Acts 2: 38 KJV

For so many years in Christendom, there has been a big debate among church leaders about what name should be used or what should be said when someone is baptized. Is it correct to say, “in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost” or is it correct to say “in the name of Jesus Christ”? I want to try and shed some light on this dilemma in this brief lesson.

So many folks are questioning whether or not their baptism has been accepted by God because of the teachings they have heard that “if you are not baptized a certain way, your baptism did not count” or “it is no good”. I’m not going to call any names or point fingers at any particular ministers or ministries, I just want to give a brief lesson on this in hopes to help somebody who may be questioning whether or not their baptism was legitimate in the eyesight of God.

First and foremost, JESUS NEVER GAVE US A SCRIPT OR AN OUTLINE TO USE TO BAPTIZE ANYONE—HE GAVE US THE AUTHORITY! You will not find in the New Testament where it tells us what we should say when we, as ministers of God, baptize someone who gives their life to Christ. When Philip baptized the Ethiopian Eunuch, Peter baptized Cornelius and his family, or Paul baptized the jailer and his family, it is NOT said what wording was used to baptize them.

The wording was not important—it was the authority (power) given to them to carry out the task of baptism. So, what we say when we baptize an individual, does not have as much bearing as by what authority we have to do so!
