Magic or Science? Turmeric Color Change with Sunlight & Lemon! #ScienceExperiment

The Experiment:
We started with a glass of plain water and mixed in turmeric powder, turning the solution a vibrant yellow. Then, a truly curious thing happened: upon exposing the yellow turmeric solution to sunlight, the color suddenly transformed from yellow to a dramatic red! Finally, we added a few drops of lemon juice (an acid) to the red solution, and in a blink, the color reverted back to its original bright yellow.
What's Happening? (The Science/Main Topic):
This stunning transformation is all about the power of pH indicators! Turmeric contains a compound called curcumin, which acts as a natural indicator. It remains yellow in neutral or acidic conditions. The mysterious change to red/reddish-brown suggests the sunlight somehow initiated a reaction (possibly with trace elements or a slight alkalinity in the water/glass) that made the solution temporarily alkaline (basic). When we added lemon juice (which is highly acidic), it neutralized the basic solution, causing the curcumin to instantly change back to its original yellow color! This is a classic example of an acid-base neutralization reaction.
