Persian Art of Engraving Metal | Buzzing Workshops & Complete Process

Описание к видео Persian Art of Engraving Metal | Buzzing Workshops & Complete Process

This is an art that requires patience, precision, and passion.

The art of Ghalamzani dates back to at least 3000 years ago and reached its peak during the Sassanid dynasty (224-651 CE) when Persian artists produced stunning gold and silver dishes decorated with animals and scenes of hunting.

The city of Isfahan in Iran is the main center for Ghalamzani in Iran, where many master craftsmen still practice this art today. The word Ghalamzani means "pen-work" in Persian, as the artists use a pen-like tool and a hammer to create the patterns on the metal surface.

Ghalamzani artists often draw inspiration from the works of famous Persian poets, such as Hafez, Rumi, Saadi, and Ferdowsi. They also incorporate elements from other Iranian arts, such as miniature painting, calligraphy, and carpet weaving.

In this video, we went to the Bazaar of Isfahan to watch the process of Ghalamzani up close. Many steps go behind this piece of art from preparing the metal surface to the actual act of hand engraving and delicate retouches that take months to finish. The authentic workshops, tools, and artists are themselves an attraction to admire when walking along the historic Bazaars.
