The South Sudanese President Salva Kiir is being endorsed as the Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM) party candidate at a rally in Juba. Voter registration operations for the December elections in South Sudan are set to begin in June. The elections, scheduled as part of a peace agreement that ended five years of civil war between rivals Salva Kiir and Riek Machar in 2018, have been postponed several times. "The people of South Sudan must be given the chance to choose their leaders at the end of this interim period. However, some parties to the Revitalize Peace Agreement and international partners do not share our views. They are pushing for an extension," says President Kiir at the rally. Source: AFP
