This weekend we are exploring some of the more fringe parts of Kumamoto Prefecture! I’ve been to Kumamoto before on a fun campervan adventure, but that was before I started my YouTube channel. So this weekend we are headed back and exploring with Olive! These places are dog friendly because there is nothing better than being able to bring our four-legged friends with us! As always I’ll have all the dog friendly things to do in Kumamoto pinned below. Save them in your google maps and give them a try. Everywhere we went was great and I would say worth stopping at if you happen across them!

JUMP TO:
Intro: 0:45
Kamishikimi Kumanoimasu Shrine: 3:40
Akanegumo Lodge Tour: 7:04
Mt. Kinbo Hike: 10:24

Like I mentioned in the video finding dog friendly things to do in Japan can be challenging, so hopefully these few things to do in Kumamoto are helpful!

Our first stop was to get coffee! We checked out “And Coffee Roasters” and highly recommend the first location pinned here. Get yourself an espresso tonic, you won’t be disappointed!!

From there we swung by the Kumamoto Castle to take some pictures, due to COVID restrictions we couldn’t go inside, but the Kumamoto Castle is on of the big 3 castles in Japan so definitely check it out!

If you’re into craft beer and burgers these two should definitely be on your list! Voyager Craft Beer & Burgers was closed while we were in town, but if we go back it’ll definitely be on our list of places to go! We’ve been to Witch Craft Market which is a pretty amazing bottle shop!

From there we drove out to the mountains to check out the Kamishikimi Kumanoimasu Shrine which was absolutely stunning! Definitely worth checking out if you are in the Mt. Aso area!

On the way we passed by this beautiful observation deck that had great views of the Mt. Aso area. There is a little coffee shop right by it too so grab a cup and relax!

Then we stay overnight at Akanegumo Lodge which is dog friendly and the people who own the place are SO nice! There is an onsen located at the lodge and dinner and breakfast are included in the price. Definitely check it out!

The next day we drove out west to get donuts at Emerald Donuts (also called Macocorochaya) DEFINITELY get the banana donut and indulge in a tasty coffee as well. The views around the area are stunning!

From there we hit up Wataru Coffee Roasters for a quick pick me up before out hike. We bought beans and enjoyed the ambiance of the place!

And then we ended with a quick hike up Mt. Kinbo. The pin here leads you to the parking lot where you can park for free and start the quick 36 minute hike up the mountain. It is 36 minutes straight up, but the views are 100% worth it! There are some absolutely stunning views of Kumamoto. You can also drive all the way up, but I recommend hiking.
