Aviation fans especially will enjoy this special edition of Cockpit Conversations when Guinness World Record breaking pilots Mike Roberts and Nick Rogers are off flying once again, aiming to set a new World Record for the most UK counties visited in 24 hours. This light hearted video, charts their day from the cockpit, with the usual mix of witty banter, fun facts and progress reports, along with a high speed video of the trip.

According to Mike, “Nick, who is a commercial pilot, had plenty of time on his hands during lockdown, so planning the challenge whilst furloughed, gave him something to do... I just showed up for the fun bit!”

For this challenge the dynamic duo departed Perth Airport, in Perthshire Scotland at 3.55am (after an early morning circuit so the landing would count as a county visited) and then weaved their way South eventually landing in Newquay, Cornwall some 18 hours later at 9.50pm making a total of 50 full stop landings at 50 different UK counties. A little bad weather on the West coast upset their plans early in the day, but the weather improved, although the airport in final county looked set to close before their arrival. Many of the airports and airfields waived their landing fees, but the pair donated the equivalent amount of £1,000 to various air ambulance charities across the UK.

The aircraft used was a Cessna 172 G-JMKE Skyhawk operated by Take Flight Aviation at Enstone. The company seeks to inspire pilots to undertake new challenges, visit new destinations and allows members to hire aircraft with no minimum daily hours requirement which means club members can rent cost effectively and take the aircraft away for a day, weekend or week and only pay the hours they fly. The company was also one of the first clubs in the UK to offset their Carbon emissions.

From major international airports like Glasgow, Edinburgh and Birmingham, to farm strips across the country and everything in between the two pilots are out to set a new Aviation world record with the minimum challenge set by Guinness as 50 counties.
