The following video will focus on how to solve combined work probems. before we get started lets take a look at the formula thats going to be guiding our rpoblem solving process for today.The formulas we are using is as follows. So lets say we have 2 people doing the same job at different times. So we are gonna call them person one and person two. lets say person 1 ompletes a job in how long in T1 and the unit of time could vary. it coould be t1 minutes hours days or watever and then person 2 completes the same job.In t2 , t repersents time in te subscript or index that we are attaching to each time the variable represents the person's position. One is a person and two is a person. then we have the combined time so combined or working together coombined, they completethe same job. and we are gonna call t sub cc represents combined and t represents time. So w have a situation like this then the following equations holds. Then we have equation one over t1 plus 1 over tw equals 1 over t combined so this equation is just telling us that if we add the reciprocal of the times of the two workers it wil give us the reciprocal of their combined time. so thats the equation that we are going to be using for the problem today. You might wonder where does this equation comes from. This equation basically comes from the rate equals quantity over time equation. so the quantity of jobs here is just one job and then the time component is for two people. So either t1 or t2 and then working together you just simply add their rates so you have rate one plus rate two together a combined rate. so his equation is actually the sum of the rates of person one and person 2 and their combined rates. That is what this equjati9on is all about.
