My god it was a pain in the ass to fine tweak this.
So, yeah. Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero, the long awaited sequel to Dragon Ball Z: Sparking! Meteor aka Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3 is finally out after like 17 years, and I obviously decided to record a video showing how its Early Access PC version runs on my end.

The game feels a bit janky at times. The camera gets stuck to the opposite side sometimes, the controls sometimes fail to respond specially in the menus, and there's ways to get out of bounds in some of the stages too. For the most part though, it's got a lot of soul in terms of animations and voice acting, and of course it looks pretty nice too.

Now, the port also has some more serious technical issues like poor texture streaming (certain textures in scenes take quite a while to load for w/e reason), poor read/write speed (I assume, because whenever the game needs to write to the savefiles it takes a loong time) and a bit of stuttering too.
This might be caused by my HDD, but at the same time, I never experienced these issues in such a noticeable manner in other games made using Unreal Engine. SZ is made using UE5 though, and before this I only played UE 3/4 games.
Perhaps that's a potential cause; UE5 might produce less optimized games without extra tinkering on the developers' part.

Be that as it may, I had a modium of fun, specially after I used LSFG (Lossless Scaling Frame Generation) to target 60 FPS by mixing the real frames with software-generated ones.

The slowdowns and freezes in this video happen whenever my CPU is fully used.
That's partly a consequence of using a program (OBS) to record the video instead of a dedicated video capture card, but LSFG also does crank up CPU usage quite a bit, so there's that.

Perhaps the game will receive a Day 1 patch tomorow, and perhaps that patch would fix some of the problems I had. I'm not going to keep my hopes up or anything, I already made it clear that this PC is quite underpowered and it pretty much only runs modern games fueled by miracles.
Nevertheless, if such a patch comes to pass and it provides any sort of noticeable improvement, I'll end up recording another video.

Oh yeah.
When I talked about fine tweaking at the very top, I was talking about the game's .ini files.
I tweaked both, my engine.ini and my gameusersettings.ini for the game.
By default the game is locked to 60 FPS and there is no way to target either a lower framerate or a higher one, so you have to go out of your way to play around with that stuff by yourself.
I'm gonna drop my copies of those files in case anyone wants to mess around with them.
They go in "C:\Users\USER\AppData\Local\SparkingZERO\Saved\Config\Windows".
