The long-awaited dream of Metro Rail for the people of Bhopal is set to come true on 20 December, with the grand inauguration of the Bhopal Metro. In the initial phase, metro services will begin on a 7.4-kilometre route covering the Orange and Blue Lines between Subhash Nagar and AIIMS.

A total of 17 daily trips will be operated, including 9 trains from Subhash Nagar to AIIMS and 8 trains from AIIMS to Subhash Nagar. Metro services will run from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM during the initial phase. Each metro train will have three coaches, comfortably carrying 200–250 passengers at a time.

The ticketing system will be manual initially, and parking facilities have been identified at 6 out of 8 metro stations. The fare structure has been kept simple—₹20 for up to two stations, ₹30 for three to five stations, and ₹40 for six to eight stations, with a maximum fare of ₹70.

Looking ahead, there are also plans to introduce driverless metro services as part of future technological upgrades, making Bhopal’s public transport system more modern and efficient.
