The Nine Levels of the Aztec Underworld (Animated)

Learn about the Aztecs' beliefs on life after death. The recently deceased needed to traverse Mictlan, which was essentially Aztec hell, if they wanted to find eternal peace. The journey, with its dangerous trials and frightening monsters, could very well rival Dante's Inferno. If they succeeded, they would be greeted by Mictlantecuhtli, the Lord of the Dead, and finally freed from their torments.
