Citibank predicts that the Metaverse will have a total addressable market of $8-$13 trillion by 2030, with Morgan Stanley believing a future $8T Metaverse TAM - in just China alone. In Web1, we accessed the Internet primarily through desktop computers using web browsers. In Web2, we mainly accessed the Internet using smartphone applications. So, as we enter the new era of the Web, the way in which we interact with it may also change; virtual reality and augmented reality will be a cornerstone. Ultimately, for the Metaverse to have meaning for us to have a new shared digital reality, reach its potential, and have a ‘second life,’ it must fully embrace Web3 principles and give users ownership of their digital property rights, identities, and privacy.
