Location: On the flank of Elephant Mountain, east of Moosehead Lake

Features: Pieces of the plane wreckage litter the site, and there is a memorial
The crash occurred on January 24, 1963, when a United States Air Force Boeing B-52C Stratofortress lost its vertical stabilizer during turbulence:
Cause: The plane experienced mechanical failure during a routine radar test mission from Westover Air Base in Massachusetts
Survivors: The pilot and navigator survived after ejecting from the plane and spending the night on the snow-covered mountain
Fatalities: Seven people onboard were killed, including the copilot who struck a tree"
