This is my favorite aria.

Growing up in rural North Carolina, I took starry skies at night for granted. I used to lie down on the ground behind our house (often, our dog Romina would lie on my chest) and just look. Feeling teeny and full of wonder is something I miss when I'm in more electrified locations.

The sky's so dark and velvet-like

Reflectin' fireflies over a pond

I wonder what it's like out there

I aim to leave this valley some day
An' find out for myself:
To see all the tall buildin's and all the street lights
An' to be one o'them folks myself

I wonder if I'd get lonesome fer the valley though
Fer the sound of crickets an' the smell of pine straw

An' the mountains turnin' gold in the fall
But I could always come back I get homesick fer the valley
