Today we are going to talk about a very common occurrence in our body – A ‘Cyst’
You may not be familiar with this word but you surely know what it looks like.
A cyst is a bump or sac-like structure on the skin that may contain some kind of fluid, air or any other substance like pus, etc.
When these cysts develop around your ear lobe, they are termed as earlobe cysts. These are small lump or sac like structures which might be mistaken as pimples.
The size of these cysts is no bigger than that of a pea. However, you need to watch over them in case they might grow in size.
Are they harmful?
Not exactly! These are generally benign to begin with and cause very few to negligible discomfort.
However, it may get damaged due to some external force and leak fluid that looks nearly like a cheesy substance.
Now let us take a look on what causes these naughty little bump heads to grow in our skin.
Causes
Being a type of an epidermoid cyst, these cysts tend to occur when the supposedly shed cells mistakenly get deep inside innermost layer of the skin and multiply.
 Variably caused by retention of natural fluids within the skin pockets
 Damaged hair follicles or oil glands give rise to these lumps of fluid
 Acne prone skin is more prone to developing cysts
 Skin injuries can alter the cell reaction to act unnaturally and dig deeper into the skin.
Symptoms
 The most common symptom of earlobe cysts is a small skin colored bump under your earlobe’s skin.
 The bump is firm, round and has a central plug on it.
 It secretes a thick fluid with a foul odour, which is keratin.
Normally, these cysts tend to heal on their own. However, in some cases they may get infected and require medical treatment to prevent further complications. The signs of your earlobe cyst getting infected include:
 Redness and swelling of the area around the cysts
 Pain or tenderness
 Inflammation
 Hearing loss
Treatment
Generally, these bumpy creatures do not require any medical attention since they tend to heal themselves within a few days. So they will most probably disappear without any treatment.
But if they are bothering you for some reasons, you can ask your doctor to remove them.
If they are causing any complications like pain, inflammation or hearing loss, you should definitely consult your doctor to avoid any botheration.
The procedure of cyst removal is done under local anesthesia that is as smooth as CUTTING, PULLING OUT (draining), and STITCHING up the skin. No Biggie!
But if you do not want the operation, your doctor will simply put you on antibiotics to fight infection and steroids to deal with the inflammation.
If you feel slight discomfort around the area, warm compression can relieve and soothe is effectively.

Precautions
The urge to squeeze or pick on a bump is very natural to us humans. But we all know that it is not the right thing to do as it may lead to scarring or some kind of infection.
