Top Boy writer Ronan Bennett on Netflix hit | Belfast influences | Drake & Kano and season 3 update

One of the hits on Netflix in 2022 has undoubtedly been Top Boy - the London gang drama featuring Kano and Ashley Walters.

Belfast writer Ronan Bennett sat down with Ciaran Bradley to discuss the creative process, the influence of executive producer Drake and the influence Ireland and Irishness had on the series.

We also discuss the death of Ronan's wife - Georgina - and the influence it had on the writing of Top Boy and why Summerhouse has become such a personal project for him. We also look at the influence of garage, grime and Hackney of 2022 in creating a real depiction that resonated with audiences all over the world.

We also look ahead to the recently-commissioned season three, which promises to be even more popular with streaming audiences.
