鶴頭と底掌の使い方に対する説明

Kakuto 鶴頭 is also called Koken 孤拳. Kaku 鶴 in Kakuto means crane. To 頭 in Kakuto means head. Thus, Kakuto together means crane head.

Ko 孤 in Koken means fox. I am pretty sure most readers know what Ken 拳 in Koken means. Yes, it means fist. Koken together it means fox fist.

Regardless of those terms, the form of this technique is the head of the wrist when it is bent towards the palm side.

Teisho 底掌 is more popular among the Shotokan 松濤館 　practitioners. It is palm heel and it can be used for block and attack, just as Kakuto.

Teisho is found in many of our kata such as Jion 慈恩, Jitte 十手 and some others.

On the other hand, I do not believe we can find Kakuto/Koken in Shotokan kata. Unfortunately, this means this technique is not considered important or necessary in Shotokan.

On the other hand, it is a very popular technique in Asai karate. Thus, it is found in some of Asai kata.

The hand can travel either vertically and/or horizontally. By those movements, one hand can perform both block and counter in one swing of the hand.　

In addition, those techniques can be applied in more different directions such as diagonal.

What is important is the flexibility of the wrist. Though not too many people know this but our wrist has a very complex structure.

It is very important for the Asai karate practitioners to work on the wrists including wrist pushups.
