In this Sports Medicine Minute video, Dr. Bill Sterett of Vail-Summit Orthopaedics & Neurosurgery discusses knee ligament tears. Ligaments are a band of tissue that connects a bone to a bone over a joint. Ligaments doesn't stretch, or move. Ligaments give the joint stability. There are four ligaments of the knee.

1. MCL - Medial collateral ligament
2. LCL - Lateral collateral ligament
3. ACL - Anterior cruciate ligament
4. PCL - Posterior cruciate ligament

The ligaments on the outside of the knee are more likely to heal on their own. Ligaments on the inside of the knee are more likely to need surgery.
